Welcome to Professional Tutoring with Fiona.

I have an extensive career in education spanning nearly 40 years, encompassing work in both the public and private sectors. I am passionate about education and have devoted my career to continually developing my own skills and knowledge to benefit the students I work with, unlocking their potential, and enabling them to achieve success in school, college, university, and the workplace.

I believe that when good literacy and numeracy skills are in place incredible opportunities open for students helping them to fully access and benefit from their learning.

My experience and qualifications include:

• Bachelor of Education degree with an elective component in Reading and Literacy.
• Special Qualification in Early Education.
• Career with Glasgow City Council Education Department, working at all levels of primary education, starting as class teacher, and progressing to Head Teacher, a post which I held for 5 years.
• Achieved the Investors in People standard for my effective leadership as a Head Teacher and for my effective management and leadership of my Kip McGrath Centre in Stirling.
• Assisted in the co-ordination of Glasgow’s Literacy Team and delivered related training.
• Wrote the curriculum resource, “Developing Play in the Primary Classroom” as an effective learning medium and delivered in-service training to teachers.
• Early entry assessor with Glasgow City Council

In 2003 I set up my Kip McGrath Tuition Centre in Stirling and for 18 years, together with my team of tutors, delivered quality tuition in Maths and English to more than three thousand students aged 6-18 years old. In 2021 I made the decision to sell my Centre to allow me to focus on Cellfield, a programme which is specifically designed to help those students with reading and language processing issues like dyslexia.

Over the years many families have come to value and trust my knowledge, understanding and expertise. Due to my established reputation, I was asked if I would start tutoring again and as a result in January 2023 Professional Tutoring with Fiona was founded. I provide a tailored and personal learning experience which is appropriate for each child with an insightful understanding of their learning needs, helping them to develop the core skills necessary to achieve their full learning potential.
